Bacteria Not Afraid to Antibiotics PDF Print E-mail

Jakarta, patients taking prescription antibiotic that many can not immediately heal the pain. It's not the wrong medicine, but it is now found in bacteria begin to not be afraid to antibiotics.

Most people generally believe that if the antibiotics are not effective drunk because his body was resistant due to antibiotic consumption patterns in the past is never spent.

But researchers from New York University found no mempannya patients to antibiotics because bacteria begin when the bacteria resistant enzyme produces nitric oxide.

Researchers say that the bacteria produce several enzymes producing nitric oxide that immune to antibiotics. Inhibits the enzyme defense mechanism exerted by antibiotics in the fight against dangerous infections.
"The development of new drugs against bacteria resistant to antibiotics such as MRSA becomes a big obstacle, because the expenses associated with large and security issues," says Evgeny Nudler from NYU Langone Medical Center, as quoted from Newsdaily, Sunday (13/9/2009 ).

Nudler and his team found that many antibiotics can kill bacteria through the production of dangerous particles known as reactive oxygen species, or in other words is called oxidative stress.

"Antibiotics are entered into the body causing bacteria produce a lot of reactive oxygen, which damage DNA and bacteria can not survive and eventually die," said Nudler.

Researchers found that nitric oxide may protect the bacteria against oxidative stress. Bacteria produce nitric oxide to be resistant or immune to antibiotics. These defense mechanisms can diaplikaskan widely in many types of antibiotics, so that one can bacteria resistant to many antibiotics which are consumed.

Currently many pharmaceutical companies began to do testing of various composition to reduce the amount of nitric oxide with a compound called nitric oxide synthase. These compounds will act as an inhibitor and is used as an anti-inflammatory drugs.

Researchers hope that with the existence of these compounds can be used to reduce the amount of nitric oxide produced by the bacteria, and reduce the ability of bacteria to resist antibiotics. This means that researchers do not need to find new antibiotics.
